They may appear only on the idiot box, but they are still brainy dynamos. Geniuses on the television shows display some pretty fascinating feats of intellect. From building an advanced gadget to saving a human being, they do it all. Be it the math, science, or history – they know everything at the right time. People love to indulge in the anomalous yet amusing behavior of these spectacles created by writers. Here’s a top 10 list of such virtuosos a.k.a genius fictional characters on television.

 

#10 Mr.Spock – Star Trek

Played by Leonard Nimoy in the Star Trek franchise, he is the unsurpassed king of stern and has a no-nonsense logical thinking attitude. As far as living creatures go, part-human and part-vulcan Spock, with a cognizance as sharp as his ears, takes spot 10 on the list of fictional brainiacs.

 

#9 Spencer Reid – Criminal Minds

He may be slightly socially awkward and may show signs of Asperger’s syndrome, but he’s a true genius. FBI’s only photographic memory man and also a behaviorist, makes use of his 187 IQ to serve the nation.

Freelance forensic blood spatter analyst, part-time vigilante serial killer with a warped code of ethics, it's debatable how good of a role model Dexter Morgan really is. That being said, his brilliance is unquestionable. Whether solving cases for the Miami-Metro Police Department or butchering evildoers in his spare time, with a keen analytical mind and meticulously laid out plans, Dexter is superb at whatever job he puts his mind to.

Michael is an incredibly talented structural engineer and he uses this to design an extravagant tattoo that outlines the prisons blueprint and use it to bust out.

Raised from childhood by his con-artist father to be a fake psychic medium, The Mentalists’ Patrick Jane has had many years of training to master his skills in observation, deduction, and knowledge of social engineering. After leaving that career, he decides to utilize his powers for good as a consulting member of the CBI (Californian Bureau of Investigation) crime fighting unit.

 

#5 Sheldon Cooper – The Big Bang Theory

He’s a socially awkward nerd except he’s a child prodigy, he has a genius level IQ, earned his first PhD at age of 16 and he’s a theoretical physicist. House may be grumpy curmudgeon with an ego the size of the Sears Tower, there's no questioning the intellect of this unorthodox, misanthropic, Vicodin-loving doctor. No matter what disease is thrown at him, no matter how impossibly incurable it seems, he manages to save the day.

 

#2 Walter White – Breaking Bad

When cancer hit him, he went from a soft suburb dad to a rouge drug lord in the blink of an eye. Walter puts that big brain of his into action by using his expertise in chemistry to not only cook meth and teach bored high school students, but also to combat some of the most vicious drug dealers in the land while building an ever-growing empire from the ground up.

 

#1 Sherlock Holmes – Sherlock

He’s the lofty genius, top notch detective and a real wizard when it comes to the crime solving. He has got the perfect ability to read anyone in his radar, perhaps even out! He’s well versed with human behavior, science, and analytic skills, which tops him the list. He calls himself a high functioning sociopath and we on the other hand are “sherlocked”.

 

Geniuses are highly adaptable, have an insane curiosity, funny and indulge in their own company. They can be found in and outside of the idiot box so you better watch out!
